No, Bret Hart is not an official member of the New World Order. At least, not yet. However, his recent close affiliation with Hollywood Hogan's NWO faction, coupled with his longtime association of sorts with the NWO since his arrival in World Championship Wrestling warrants mention...Bret Hart is a five-time former World Wrestling Federation champion, and his arrival in WCW was controversial to say the least...after his involvement in a much-publicized dispute with WWF head Vince McMahon at the 1997 Survivor Series pay-per-view, Hart left the WWF and soon after debuted in World Championship Wrestling...prior to his WCW debut, his signing was heralded on WCW TV by Eric Bischoff, who promised that Bret would be the newest member of the NWO...however, after the NWO sang "Oh Canada" in a mock "tribute" to Hart, many began to doubt that Hart would join after all...when Hart finally arrived, he was named special referee by J.J. Dillon in the match between Bischoff and Larry Zbyszko at the 1997 Starrcade pay-per-view...though initially Bischoff was pleased at this announcement, Hart hinted that he did not side with the NWO after saying he would call the match down the middle...however, that would not be completely the case, as Hart became physically involved in the match after seeing a foreign object Bischoff attempted to use against Zbyszko...Hart saw Bischoff strike Zbyszko with the object in his boot, and attacked Scott Hall who was at ringside as he attempted to interfere, putting him in the Sharpshooter...this action initially laid to rest all speculation that Hart was an NWO member...as revenge, the NWO sent Curt Hennig to feud with Hart, though Hart later defeated him...was soonafter almost tricked by Bryan Adams upon Adams' first appearance in WCW, after Adams said Hart had a friend in him...however, Adams then attacked Hart and revealed that he was a member of the NWO...by this time, Hart was beginning to become known for his lack of in-ring action since his WCW arrival, and Hart wrestled his first match on Nitro months after his debut in the organization, the week after he was attacked by Adams (he defeated Adams in that match)...later began a verbal feud with Ric Flair over who was the "best there is, was, and ever will be," and Hart once again triumphed after defeating Flair via Sharpshooter...was not very actively involved in storylines until the split occurred between the factions of the NWO...on the 4/20/98 edition of Nitro, Hart shocked the world by turning on his fans and seemingly siding with Hogan's faction of the New World Order...this occurred during the match between then-WCW Champion Randy Savage vs. Hogan, when interference by Nash appeared to have Savage in the position to win the match. However, Hart ran in and struck Nash with the world title belt, then laid Hogan on top of Savage as the referee was unconscious...Hart then revived the referee for him to make the count, causing Hogan to win the title...shocked, WCW Commissioner Roddy Piper ran to ringside for Hart to explain himself, and Hart hit him and actually smiled, seemingly pleased by his own actions...the following week, Hart came to ringside in an attempt to explain himself but was interrupted by Savage...Hogan, the Disciple and Hart then attacked him...this began a feud between Savage and Hart which led to a match between them at the 1998 Slamboree pay-per-view (it was billed as their first-ever match, though the two had met before in the WWF)...Hart defeated Savage after interference by Hollywood Hogan, who rammed Savage's knee into the ring-post...Bret Hart took advantage of Hogan's actions, executing the Sharpshooter, and Savage immediately submitted to let Hart obtain the victory...on the following Nitro, special referee Roddy Piper came out and actually reversed the decision since he was unaware of the interference by Hogan...livid, Hart came out and called Piper and Savage "gutless"...Hollywood Hogan then came to Hart's side and challenged Piper and Savage to a tag team match at the upcoming Great American Bash pay-per-view...currently, it appears that Hart is acting as a member of Hogan's faction of the NWO, though rumors abound that Hart is only doing so for his own purposes, as he is only after Hogan's World Heavyweight Championship.
